A wood-look modern garage door is a flat or planked steel door with a wood-grain finish, sometimes on a composite skin, often trimmed in black. It gives the warm look of wood with the upkeep of steel. Chen Garage Door installs them across Marin, old door hauled away.

- Three-layer: foam between two steel skins, about R-6 to R-18 depending on the foam. Stiffest and quietest.

Are faux wood garage doors good?
For most Marin homes, yes. A wood-look door needs no staining, and a foam-filled steel core makes it stiff and quiet. Up close the grain is printed or molded, so it reads less like wood than a natural wood door.
Does the finish fade?
Dark tones can fade in strong sun over the years, and lighter tones hold up longer. We show you finish samples in daylight at the quote visit.
Is it cheaper than a wood door?
Usually. It also skips the refinishing.
What is a composite skin?
Some wood-look doors have a composite face over steel, molded from wood boards, for a deeper grain than a printed finish. It costs more.
